Press Conference by Security Council Monitoring Group, '1267' Committee

Heraldo Munoz (right), Permanent Representative of Chile to the United Nations, is Chairman of the Security Council Committee established pursuant to Security Council resolution 1267 (1999). Michael Chandler(left) is Chairman of the Monitoring Group, and he described the first of two reports the Monitoring Group is requested to submit to the Committee.
Mr. Chandler (left) said that Al Qaeda continues to present a significant risk to international peace and security, and that recent events -- such as the bombings in Saudi Arabia, Chechnya, Morocco and Afghanistan -- had demonstrated that Al Qaeda still poses a significant threat.
