Press Conference by UN-Habitat on Launch of Global Report on Human Settlements

3 October 2003

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) launched a report, ""The Challenge of Slums: Global Report on Human Settlements 2003"". According to the report, nearly one billion people alive today - one in every six human beings - are slum dwellers, and that number is likely to double in the next thirty years unless a concerted effort is undertaken to alleviate the situation.
