UNMIL Peacekeepers Patrol Outskirt of Tubmanburg
United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) peacekeepers today began patrolling the outskirt of Tubmanburg. The city served as the launchpad for Liberians United for Reconciliation and Democracy (LURD) attacks on the capital Monrovia last year. Pakistani UNMIL peacekeepers had to repair a bridge near the city in order for armored vehicles to cross. Last September, the Security Council approved the establishment of UNMIL and the deployment of up to 15,000 military personnel and over 1,000 civilian police officers to bring peace to the country torn by 12 years of conflict.
