New United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Holds First Press Conference at Headquarters

At her first press conference at Headquarters, Mary Robinson, the new United, Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, today told correspondents she would be taking a bottom-up approach to the promotion of human rights. Her approach would be inclusive of civil and political rights, economic, social and cultural rights, the right to development, as well as women's rights.
