The Secretariat building (left) rising to 39-stories, with the Conference, General Assembly (white, domed structure, centre) and the Dag Hammarskjöld Library buildings comprise the permanent Headquarters of the United Nations. These buildings are located on an eighteen-acre, six-block tract on the island of Manhattan between 42nd and 48th Streets and First Avenue and the East River.
