Cornerstone Laying Ceremony Marks Fourth Birthday of United Nations

The cornerstone of the permanent headquarters of the United Nations was laid today -United Nations Day - during a special open-air General Assembly meeting. The ceremony, marking the fourth anniversary of the United Nations, was attended by United States President Harry S. Truman, who was the principal speaker. Secretary-General Trygve Lie deposited copies of the United Nations Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in the stone.
