Secretary-General's Envoy on Youth Visits Youth in PoC Site in Juba

Jayathma Wickramanayake (centre), UN Secretary-General's Envoy on Youth, who is in South Sudan on a week-long visit, visits a vocational training provided to displaced youth by the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) in partnership with Women Advancement Organization (WAO). The training is taking place in the Protection of Civilian site, known as PoC1, in Juba, where thousands of South Sudanese children and youth have lived since civil war erupted in December 2013. The center trains youth in computer skills, tailoring, catering, hairdressing, carpentry, literacy as well as combating gender-based violence and training in conflict prevention. There are currently 315 young people enrolled in the various courses. Ms. Wickramanayake spent several hours in the protection site meeting with the trainees and listening to the challenges they face.
