Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Visits IDP Camp in Democratic Republic of Congo

Jean-Pierre Lacroix, Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, is visiting the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). He arrived in Bunia, the provincial capital of Ituri, in the eastern DRC. This is the first stop on his three-day visit to the DRC that will take him to Goma and Kinshasa.

Between 65,000 and 70,000 internally displaced persons (IDP) live here, under the protection of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO), in the largest IDP camp in Ituri.
