General Assembly Observes Nelson Mandela International Day
Morissanda Kouyaté, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, African Integration and Guineans Living Abroad of the Republic of Guinea, and leading advocate on ending violence against women and girls in Africa, addresses the General Assembly informal meeting of the plenary to mark the observance of Nelson Mandela International Day.
The 2020 UN Nelson Mandela Prize will be awarded to Marianna V. Vardinoyannis of Greece and Morissanda Kouyaté of Guinea.
Mr. Kouyaté initiated efforts to address violence against women with the African Union Commission, leading to the Maputo Protocol, Africa's regional instrument on ending violence against women.
