General Assembly Elects Non-Permanent Members of Security Council for 2024 - 2025
The General Assembly elects five new non-permanent members of the Security Council to serve for the period of 1 January 2024 - 31 December 2025. The Assembly elected Algeria, Guyana, the Republic of Korea, Sierra Leone, and Slovenia. Six member states were running for the five available seats, with Belarus and Slovenia running for one available seat in the Eastern European Group. All have served on the Council previously: Algeria three times, Guyana and the Republic of Korea twice, and Sierra Leone and Slovenia once.
