Korean President Initiates New Term

15 August 1952

On 15 August 1952, an official ceremony was held in Seoul to inaugurate the new term of office for which President Syngman Rhee was reelected on 5 August 1952. This picture shows part of the huge crowd which gathered in the courtyard of the Capitol building to hear the inauguration speech of the President, who is seen at the right of the picture, under an umbrella used to protect him from the heat.
