7. SOUNDBITE (English) Felipe Calderón, former President of Mexico:
“Think that in the last 30 years the world economy has more than doubled in size since 1980 and it is expected that to double it again by the year 2030. In other words, if we are going to build another economy similar in size to the current economy, let’s do that economy, but this time in the right direction in the low carbon path and that growth is possible.”

“The green economy is not going to happen by itself. When the world will need to take the measure because it has not other alternative will be too late and too expensive. 13. SOUNDBITE (English) Olafur Ragnar Grimsson, President of Iceland:
“I am often asked the question how did Iceland become 100 percent clean energy economy. When did we formulate this grand vision, this comprehensive plan and the simple answer is we never did. It is a transformation that took place house by house, street by street, village by village, district by district, town by town until 30 years later the entire national energy economy has reached the number one global clean energy transformation.”

He said “if we are able to improve the efficiency of energy storage, we will provide for the world sustainable energy for all.”
The former Mexican president also underscored “the green economy is not going to happen by itself. When the world will need to take the measure because it has not other alternative will be too late and too expensive.”
He added “we can take today those measures and we can demonstrate that it is possible to have roughly the same rates or even more rates of economic growth with a different path.”
