As the football World Cup is about to kicks off in Sao Paolo Brazil, on the other side of the world, off the coast of Lebanon, a party is under way.
Brazilian sailors, members of the Maritime Task Force (MTF) serving under the flag of the United Nations (UN) Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) get a rare chance to kick back and watch their national team play against Croatia.
MTF supports the Lebanese Navy in monitoring its territorial waters, securing Lebanese coastline and preventing unauthorized entry of arms and related material into Lebanon.
Liberal is the flagship of the MTF.
Under Brazilian command, the frigate is set for the World Cup’s kick off. In the welfare rooms crew members are ready for the opening game.
More than 10,000 km away from home, radio operator Sergeant Ginta feels emotional when thinking about his wife and two children:
