"We still have a very serious crisis in our hands. There are people dying every day, there are people getting newly infected every day and there are still some serious requirements to put in place the necessary capabilities to bring the crisis to an end. On the other hand, we are seeing a lot of progress. Work by national governments, NGOs, UN agencies, bilateral partners like the United States and UNMEER as well, and we are starting to see the impact of all these efforts. There's been a very significant mobilization of international personnel, resources and capabilities to work side-by-side with the governments, and those efforts are starting to pay off.”

Storyline

The United States Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Samantha Power, visited staff at the headquarters of the United Nations Mission for Ebola Emergency Response (UNMEER) in Accra Ghana, to share findings from her recent trip to the three Ebola-stricken countries and to discuss a way forwards.

Anthony Banbury, the Secretary-General's Special Representative and Head of UNMEER gave the US Ambassador a tour of the warehouse which contains some of the supplies intended for the Ebola-affected countries, prior to holding a joint press conference.

Banbury spoke of the positive impact that international efforts were starting to have on the outbreak, but said that more help is needed on the ground.
