3. SOUNDBITE (English) Afshan Khan, Director of Emergency Programmes for the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF):
“Ultimately, this political crisis is being fought on the backs of children, young people and women. We’ve seen an increase in growth in mobilizing youth to kill, maim and abduct and that’s a phenomenon that’s growing. I think in our sense then we very much call, echo the Secretary General’s call for all parties to uphold the rule of law, urge the authorities to help create conditions for a credible and inclusive dialogue that can address the deep political challenges facing the country.”

5. SOUNDBITE (English) John Ging, Operations Director for the UN Office of the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA):
“But our real concern that we are as the High Commissioner for Human Rights said earlier today we’re on the cusp of a very dangerous situation in terms of the prospects for descending into an inter-ethnic conflict so again we’re all extremely concerned about that.”

7. SOUNDBITE (English) John Ging, Operations Director for the UN Office of the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA):
“The government in my view is predominately relying on a security response to a political problem and that is not a solution. And in our dialogue with the government we were impressing upon them the need to focus on political solution which in the beginning is to have an inclusive dialogue which generates confidence among the population.”
