7. SOUNDBITE (English) Christine Lagarde, Managing Director IMF:
“I am not satisfied with it, but there’s a point in time when one has to just stop, turn the page and move on, and continue to work with those who have put their trust in me. So I’m very happy to not appeal this decision and to focus all my attention, all my time, all my efforts, all my energy and enthusiasm to my mission as head of the IMF.”

IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde thanked the Board for reaffirming their full confidence and support issued in a statement following the conclusion of her legal proceedings in France.
“I would like to publically thank the IMF Executive Board for reaffirming its full confidence in my ability to do my job as head of the IMF,” Lagarde said. “The Executive Board, representing the entire IMF membership – 189 membership states – have reaffirmed their confidence and have, throughout the process, of this trial, and the five years that has preceded it, have always expressed their support, and this has indeed sustained me and given me a lot of strength.”
She expressed relief in the outcome, where she was partially cleared of negligence charges by a special and rarely used political court.
“Now all along, in my previous professional life and as head of the IMF, I’ve always discharged my duties in full responsibility, in conscious, in confidence, and with a clear focus on public interest. Throughout this ordeal that I’ve gone through, I have never allowed myself to be distracted from the focus of what has been my professional life for the last five years - the mission of the IMF and me – leading the organization,” Lagarde said.
The court did find her guilty of one count of negligence, but decided not to issue any punishment or fine, or even to register the finding. Lagarde said it is “time to turn the page” and that she will not pursue an appeal.
“I am not satisfied with it, but there’s a point in time when one has to just stop, turn the page and move on, and continue to work with those who have put their trust in me. So I’m very happy to not appeal this decision and to focus all my attention, all my time, all my efforts, all my energy and enthusiasm to my mission as head of the IMF,” Lagarde said.
