“We discussed the implication of the fighting going on unfortunately in this country and the refugees fleeing to the neighboring countries including the some in the DRC currently some of them who are part of the SPLA\IO are in the camp in DRC under the courtesy of MONUSCO, disarmed and the government of DRC want the UN to move them out of DRC so we are looking forward for means to assisting the DRC, South Sudan and others to relocate them elsewhere one of the preferred option is taking the advantage of the amnesty some of them may and some of them have expressed interest in returning home.”

“The president here has announced a general amnesty as you correctly said those who are going to respond positively to this amnesty will be very much welcome by the government of South Sudan will be coordinated with the UN those who are not going to respond to this amnesty the UN will also hand them as refugees and as he said they will be taken to countries in the region of their choice but off cause they have to respect the Rules and regulations of the UNHCR as refugee “
5. Various Shots, Djinnit leaving after meeting First Vice President
The United Nations Special Envoy to the Great Lakes Region arrived in Juba today (06 Feb) to consult with the government on the relocation of opposition forces who fled South Sudan into the neighbouring Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
The forces crossed with their leader, Riek Machar, at the height of the fighting in July.
The Special Envoy, Said Djinnit, who is visiting the country for the first time, met with the First Vice President Taban Deng Gai and the Foreign Affairs Minister Deng Alor.
Djinnit told journalists in Juba that the United Nations is ready to relocate the ex-IO forces as demanded by the Congolese government but it needs to consult with Juba.

Foreign Affairs Minister Deng Alor said the government is ready to welcome the former IO forces who are willing to accept amnesty declared by President Salva Kiir last year.

Those who are not going to respond to this general amnesty the UN also is going to handle them as refugees and as he said they will be taken to the countries in the region of their choice but of course they have to respect the rule and regulations of the UNCHR as refugees so we do not have problem there.”
Djinnit stressed the mission is here to support the people and the institutions of the country to consolidate peace, stability democracy and development.
