Storyline

The Secretary of State of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson, today (23 Mar) said that “the world is uniting to defeat” those who launched Wednesday’s terrorist attack in London.

After presiding a Security Council briefing, Johnson told reporters in New York that the international community is united in its will to defeat the terrorists’ “bankrupt and odious ideology.”

He added that “our values are superior, our view of the world is better and more generous, and our will is stronger.”

Johnson said this ideology “seeks to twist and to pervert the Muslim religion, and they need to be treated as criminals.”

Asked about the proposed US travel ban, the Secretary of State said “the cooperation between the UK government and the US administration, the US security services is intense and will continue. And we, of course, we both exercise our protections insofar as people coming into our countries is concerned. And it’s quite right that the UK should have its own system, the United States is introducing its own. We will cooperate to make sure that when we face a threat, when we have news of people who mean to do us harm, that we will work to share that information in order to follow whatever they may be preparing.”

According to news reports, on Wednesday a UK born man launched a vehicular and knife attack near London’s Houses of Parliament, killing four people and injuring 29, seven of them critically.
