“Proudly, Jordan won the bid to hold the World Science Forum, so it will be the first time that we have such a large gathering of scientists ever in the Middle East region and particularly in Jordan. 3,000 scientists from over a 100 countries will be convening on the shores of the Dead Sea, the world’s lowest point on earth, from the 7th to the 11th of November under the banner of Science for Peace.”

Scientists and technical experts from all over the world are gathering this week in Vienna, Austria, for a meeting convened by the United Nations partner organization working to establish a verification regime to monitor global compliance with the comprehensive ban on nuclear testing.
The Science and Technology 2017 Conference, which runs through Friday, is seeking to enlarge the engagement of the scientific and technological community in test-ban monitoring. In addition, scientists are applying CTBTO data to improve the mitigation of disasters and other applications, such as tracking radioactivity around the globe.
Princess Sumaya of Jordan participated to highlight science’s importance in today’s world in achieving peace, and highlighted the CTBTO as a leader in protecting public health and safety.

The Treaty, which bans all nuclear explosions in all environments opened for signature in 1996 and needs eight more specific ratifications (China, the DPRK, Egypt, India, Iran, Israel, Pakistan, and the U.S.A.) to enter into force.
