A UN spokesperson told journalists in New York today that the UN humanitarian chief for Yemen was deeply concerned over reports of airstrikes on civilians which killed at least 12 people, including women and children.
Stephan Dujarric said UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen Jamie McGoldrick expressed his deep concern over reports of airstrikes on a house and a private car in two separate districts of the Sa’ada Governorate.
Quoting McGoldrick, Dujarric said these new incidents are being investigated by the UN Human Rights Office and “are an example of the brutality in which the conflict is being conducted.” He said all parties to the conflict “continue to show a disregard for the protection of civilians and the principle of distinction between civilians and combatants in the conduction of military activities.”
McGoldrick once again urged all parties to the conflict to uphold their responsibilities under international humanitarian law and protect the safety of civilians.
