United States (US) President Donald Trump said if his country is forced to defend itself or its allies it would have “no choice but to totally destroy North Korea.”
Speaking today (19 Sep) at the opening the General Assembly’s General debate, Trump described North Korean leader Kim Jong-un as a “rocketman” on a “suicide mission for himself and for his regime.” He said the US is “ready, willing and able”, but hoped that war will not be “necessary.”
Turning to Iran, the US President said that the “longest suffering victims” of the country’s leaders are “in fact its own people.” He said the Iranian Government “masks a corrupt dictatorship behind the false guise of a democracy” and has turned a wealthy country with a rich history and culture into an “economically depleted rogue state, whose chief exports are violence, bloodshed, and chaos.” He called the Iranian nuclear deal “one of the worst and most one-sided transactions the United states has ever entered into” and described it as ‘an embarrassment to the United States.”
Trump said Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has inflicted terrible pain and suffering on the good people of that country. He said the leadership in Venezuela destroyed a prosperous nation by imposing a failed ideology that has produced poverty and misery everywhere it has been tried, referring to socialism. Trump said Venezuelan people are “starving and their country is collapsing” adding that the current situation in the country “unacceptable” He said the US has a goal to help the Venezuelan people “regain their freedom, recover their country, and restore their democracy.” He said the economic ties the US has with many Latin American nations and asked the leaders in attendance to prepare to do more to address the Venezuelan crisis.
