5. SOUNDBITE (Spanish) Juan Manuel Santos, President, Colombia:
“It has not been easy. To put an end to war, to overcome hatred, to overcome fear, implies a complex process based on dialogue and concessions. But we have accomplished it because we had the will to do it, and because we were conscious of a fundamental premise: peace is a necessary condition for progress and the pursuit of happiness in every society.”

7. SOUNDBITE (Spanish) Juan Manuel Santos, President, Colombia:
“We are extremely worried about the situation of our sister nation and neighbour, Venezuela, with which we share a vast border, a common history, and human bonds that do not allow us to remain indifferent to its destiny. We hurt for Venezuela. It hurts us to see the progressive destruction of its democracy. It hurts us to see political prosecution and the systematic violation of the human rights of Venezuelans. Today I have reiterated my call to the Secretary-General and the international community as a whole to support the people of Venezuela in its quest for a peaceful resolution that will return it to the road of progress, democracy, and freedom.”
