5. SOUNDBITE (English) Sienna Miller, Actress Activist:
“This movement where together we take a stand on justice, challenges the loneliness and isolation we’ve all felt, whatever our situations. I just really feel like as a result of this, we are not alone any longer. So, driven by outrage and a resolve to end discrimination amongst women in the media and in all industries, women have united to claim that time is up.”

7. SOUNDBITE (English) Sienna Miller, Actress Activist:
“For me, the stronger significance of the Time’s Up movement is that by bringing to light some of the darkest moments of some of the most powerful women in Hollywood, it sends a message to those who admire and listen to them. This message is that sexual harassment can happen to anyone, even those who we think are untouchable because of their fame or celebrity status. Being treated unfairly cannot be an intrinsic part of being a woman. Women are not expected or supposed to endure injustices in silence because they have children to feed, mortgages to pay, or ambitions to fulfil.”

9. SOUNDBITE (English) Sienna Miller, Actress Activist:
“The Time’s Up movement has thought a lesson to rampant patriarchal societies that the future will be equal. This is about women speaking their truth, about speaking truth to power and about leaving no one behind.”

12. SOUNDBITE (English) Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Head, UN Women:
“The #MeToo movement is a tipping point, the way we see it at UN Women. The work that many women all over the world for many years have done is coming to a head. And it is a tipping point also because it gives us an opportunity for those women who are powerful, more visible, but also subjected to the same gender inequality and assaults as average and ordinary women who are then standing up, and as they are standing up, they also are speaking fo other women who are otherwise made invisible.”

Actress and Activist Sienna Miller today (16 Mar) told a session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women that the #MeToo / Time’s Up movement “challenges the loneliness and isolation” women have felt, “whatever our situations.”
As a result of this, Miller said, “we are not alone any longer.”
The British-American actress said that “by bringing to light some of the darkest moments of some of the most powerful women in Hollywood, it sends a message to those who admire and listen to them.”
This message, she said, “is that sexual harassment can happen to anyone, even those who we think are untouchable because of their fame or celebrity status.”
Miller said “the Time’s Up movement has thought a lesson to rampant patriarchal societies that the future will be equal. This is about women speaking their truth, about speaking truth to power and about leaving no one behind.”
Also addressing the meeting, the Head of UN Women, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka said, the movement “is a tipping point.”
Mlambo-Ngcuka said “the work that many women all over the world for many years have done is coming to a head. And it is a tipping point also because it gives us an opportunity for those women who are powerful, more visible, but also subjected to the same gender inequality and assaults as average and ordinary women who are then standing up, and as they are standing up, they also are speaking for other women who are otherwise made invisible.”
The session, titled “#MeToo - Now What? Women in the Media: From Outcry to Action” was hosted by the Mission of Norway, The Guardian and UN Women.
