UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Priyanka Chopra called for more support for vulnerable Rohingya refugee children and women following a four-day trip to refugee camps and informal settlements in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh.
Chopra said her visit helped her better understand the enormity of this crisis. She noted the progress made by UNICEF and its partners to support women and children in the camps but said much more support was needed.
The goodwill ambassador visited UNICEF-supported learning centres and child-friendly spaces where she actively participated in lessons, games and songs and learned about the challenges in providing Rohingya children with education.

Chopra said the children she spoke to told her they just wanted to be recognized as Rohingya and return to their homes to study and build a future.

The Government of Bangladesh has taken in more than 700,000 Rohingya refugees since 25 August 2017 and has been working with UNICEF to deliver support to the refugees and host communities. Nearly 60 percent of the refugees are children and have limited access to clean and safe water, food and education.
