Speaking at the International Labor Conference, President of Colombia Juan Manuel Santos today said that after silencing the weapons of war, his country seeks to build a peace based on social justice, through more employment, less poverty and less inequality.

The Colombian President said “the road we have been following in Colombia is integrated with the task that the international community has been carrying out within the framework of the International Labour Organization: to dignify the work of the workers and guarantee the effective protection of their rights.”

He added “social justice is achieved with more employment, less poverty and less inequality. Decent work is a pillar of that effort, in which labor policies and more equitable economic development are fundamental.”

Member States of the International Labour Organization (ILO) meet at the International Labour Conference annually in Geneva, Switzerland, in the month of June.

The Conference drafts and adopts international labour standards in the form of Conventions and Recommendations, supervises the application of Conventions and Recommendations at the national level, examines the Global Report prepared by the Office under the follow-up procedure required by the Declaration, and more.
