5. SOUNDBITE (English) António Guterres, Secretary-General, United Nations:
“Today is the start of a new era for young people at the United Nations. And everyone here can help as we move forward. Member states, invest in and empowering your young people in your countries. Companies, working with us to provide skills and opportunities to young people. Civil society, being bold, speaking out, and keeping up the pressure. And to all young men and women, I say, join us, sign up, volunteer, vote, be part of the solution.””

7. SOUNDBITE (English) António Guterres, Secretary-General, United Nations:
“More than one fifth of young people are not in employment, education or training. And at least one in four is affected by violence or armed conflict in some way. Millions of girls become mothers while they are still children, affecting their health and entrenching a cycle of poverty. And too often, young people are excluded by development programmes; ignored in peace negotiations; and denied a voice and a seat at the table. At the same time, young people are a vast source of innovation, ideas and solutions.”
8. Med shot, UNICEF goodwill envoy Lilly Singh
9. SOUNDBITE (English) Paul Kagame, President, Rwanda:
“The United Nations cannot be relevant to all people without an answer to the aspirations of the world’s youth. After all, in developing countries, most of the population consists of young people.”
10. Med shot, audience
11. SOUNDBITE (English) Henrietta H. Fore, Executive Director, UNICEF:
We’re calling for cutting-edge solutions and new ideas to get every person in school, learning, training or age-appropriate employment by the year 2030. We’re asking governments, businesses, foundations, academia, non-profits, communities and innovators to help us. And we’re co-creating these solutions with young people in the lead, supporting them as — together — we design and scale-up solutions that address these needs.”
