“The Government of the Republic of South Sudan is ready to welcome forces from the guarantors of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS) to monitor the implementation of the Peace Agreement and encourages the IGAD and AU to dialogue with the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on how the Regional Protection Force (RPF) can help in monitoring and ensuring that peace holds in the Republic of South Sudan.”

South Sudanese First Vice President Taban Deng Gai called on the UN family, “including those who are sceptical, to give peace a chance in the Republic of South Sudan by supporting the critical implementation phase of the Peace Agreement.”
Addressing the General Assembly today (28 Sep), Deng said his country was heading towards peaceful stability and on schedule to hold free and fair general elections after a transitional period of 36 months. He said in the Khartoum Declaration of Agreement, President Salva Kiir, Dr. Riek Machar, and other political leaders agreed to a permanent ceasefire throughout South Sudan, and the adoption of security arrangements to build one national army, police and other security organs.
The South Sudanese First Vice President said the full implementation of the recently signed Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (RARCSS) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia was pivotal to achieving peace.

Deng stressed that South Sudan has moved towards a reconciliatory and accommodating Government of national unity through a change of leaders' attitude from entrenched positions. He added that the IGAD-led peace initiative demonstrated the way in which African solutions to African problems could lead to an agreement.
Deng appealed for a “the speedy normalization of the relationship between the Republic of Sudan and United States of America” and called for the “the total lifting of sanctions” against Sudan given the “positive role” it played in the South Sudanese peace process. He urged Sudan for speedy resolution of the contentious issues in Blue Nile, Southern Kordofan and Darfur, adding that stability in these areas was critical for lasting peace in the two countries and the region as a whole.
