"Cheka was considered as a brave and untouchable guy, nobody could take him to court. Today we are happy that all those who thought themselves abandoned, who had lost a member of their family, because of Cheka attacks, that these people will be happy to see this gentleman, who believed himself untouchable, being prosecuted by the Congolese justice. This is a good thing. This will be an example for all those people who continue to commit crimes here and there. These people should know that tomorrow they will respond to court for their crimes. "

The trial of the Congolese warlord Ntabo Ntaberi Cheka is underway in Goma, a provincial capital in the restive eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The trial has started on 24 November this year and is conducted by an operational military court.
Cheka has been leading the Nduma Defense of Congo, or NDC, one of the armed groups attacking villages in the North Kivu province of the DRC, mostly in Walikale territory.
Cheka surrendered to the UN peacekeepers (MONUSCO) on 26 July 2017. MONUSCO handed over him to the Congolese authorities for trial.
