IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde today (26 Mar) met with Mali Prime Minister Soumeylou Boubeye Maiga in Washington, DC. Lagarde offered condolences to the people of Mali following a massacre of Fulani villagers in Ogossagou Sunday that left at least 130 people dead.
The two held a meeting at the IMF headquarters in which they covered a broad spread of topics regarding the economic development of Mali.
The IMF has supported stabilizing efforts by the government of Mali since 2013 by an Extended Credit Facility arrangement.
During the latest review of the program in December the IMF praised Mali for its ‘broadly positive’ economic results and the Board approved disbursement of approximately $44 million USD in support.
