At least 500 people were killed while an estimated 1.8 million people have been affected after a devastating cyclone hit Mozambique on 14th March. The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) has sent relief items to the affected area.
Cyclone Idai tore through Mozambique, destroying homes, roads and bridges. Beira was one of the worst hit. Government and aid agencies are struggling to help the displaced but are scrambling to meet even their basic needs.
UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency has sent tents, tarpaulins, mosquito nets, solar lanterns and other vital relief to help survivors in Mozambique and in neighboring Zimbabwe and Malawi, which were also affected.
