Storyline

Following a massacre of dozens of civilians by an armed group known as 3R in several villages in the north-west of the Central African Republic, a joint mission from the country’s government and the UN peacekeeping mission in CAR, MINUSCA, visited PAUA on Saturday (25 May).

"Corpses littered the ground. They were buried in mass graves. It is deplorable. These are heinous acts committed by an armed group. These are elements of the 3R who massacred the villagers. I do not have enough words. It is a deplorable act", describes Dieudonné Youngaïna, the representative of the State in the Ouham Pendé region where this massacre occurred.

It is the biggest mass-killing since the signing of a peace agreement between the government and 14 armed groups that control a large part of the Central African Republic on February 6. Some victims were tied up before being killed. In Paoua, the minister of public security called on the population to keep calm.

"Our compatriots in this village must calm down and comply with justice," Henri Wanzet Linguissara is asking

The main concern of the population of Paoua, which includes thousands of displaced people, is above all to avoid new killings.

"The MINUSCA has been working hard to help the police, the police, and the Central African Armed Forces," Stress Kenneth Gluck, Deputy Head of the MINUSCA.

At the request of the government, the armed group 3R, led by a man named Sidiki, has already put to justice three alleged guilty of these new killings. The government also demands the dismantling of all bases and barriers of the 3R movement.

The Central African Republic has been torn apart by violence since 2013 and the overthrow of President François Bozizé.
