“Therefore, we have to think a great deal about working conditions. Also because the classic relationship between employer and employee is changing: how can employee rights be demanded from a platform? How can or should artificially complement human and artificial intelligence? How is the required training ensured? We in Germany are currently developing a new training strategy, which will be presented today, which we will soon adopt in the Cabinet, and so do many in the world. And it is good that the International Labour Organization takes these questions very seriously. It has set up a global commission on the future of work to find coherent answers to these questions.”

“This new globalization, this multilateralism to reinvent, it’s a multilateralism of humanity but also of responsibility, responsibilities in business, on our lands, in each of our countries, but also among us. The acceleration of the digital revolution and the acceleration of global warming and the scarcity of biodiversity are leading us to rethink very profoundly our way of doing things. They are making even more imperative the multilateralism that is yours, and which is ours in this world, to struggle both for the dignity of man and to make this world habitable.”

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and French President Emmanuel Macron addressed the International Labour Conference today in Geneva, Switzerland marking the 100th anniversary of the International Labour Organization.
Medvedev said Russian “fully” shared the mission and objectives of the ILO and agreed with its position “that our common task is to make work in the twenty-first century a universal factor in personal development, a source of disclosure and realization of opportunities for all people."
German Chancellor Merkel said the ILO’s answer to securing peace around the world was through “social justice.” She said leaders must thing “a great deal about working conditions.” She said, “Also because the classic relationship between employer and employee is changing: how can employee rights be demanded from a platform? How can or should artificially complement human and artificial intelligence? How is the required training ensured?”
Merkel said Germany was developing a new training strategy to deal with these issues adding that “it is good that the International Labour Organization takes these questions very seriously; it has set up a global commission on the future of work to find coherent answers to these questions.”

More than 40 heads of government and state are scheduled to address the two-week long Conference. During the Conference nearly 6,000 delegates – representing governments, workers and employers – will discuss transformative changes in the world of work, and will consider the adoption of a landmark ILO Centenary Declaration on the future of work. They will also discuss violence and harassment at the workplace with a view to adopting a new international instrument.
