Storyline

Recruited in 2019 with the support of UN Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), 150 new prison officers and assistants are receiving training at the National School of Magistracy (ENAM) in Bangui.

This two-year course includes one year of academic classes and one year of practical training in administration. Students stay at the ENAM.

“We are giving them the tools to meet people who are in prison. They learn the methods and strategies for managing a prison house,” explains Lt. Laurent Yantilamadji, Head of Human Resources at the National Police.

The competition to enter the administration has been very selective, and those who have succeeded are proud to be here.

“The profession of prison officer is a good job that offers an outstanding career. It is also an area that provides the opportunity for young people to progress and learn many things,” says Prince Bela, student at the ENAM.

One hundred fifty new correctional officers and assistants will be recruited in the months coming.

“We will open the competition again. It will concern the DC level and the baccalaureate level. So those who are interested can already prepare their files,” says Alexis N’dui-Yabela Director general of the ENAM.

Women are encouraged to apply. The government seeks parity between men and women in the administration.

“People think that this job is for men. But it's wrong. Women, like me, can do this job,” noted Gomer Toubaro, student at the ENAM.

The media will soon inform the Centrals Africans of the modalities and the dates of the next entrance examination in the prison administration.
