“The Secretary-General is extremely concerned about the recent reported seizures of vessels, including in the Strait of Hormuz. The Secretary-General stresses the need to respect the rights and duties relating to navigation through the Strait and its adjacent waters in accordance with international law. The Secretary-General urges all concerned to exercise maximum restraint and to refrain from actions that will escalate tensions further.”

Secretary-General António Guterres “is extremely concerned” about the recent reported seizures of vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, according to spokesperson Farhan Haq.
Speaking to reporters today (22 Jul) Haq said, “the Secretary-General stresses the need to respect the rights and duties relating to navigation through the Strait and its adjacent waters in accordance with international law.”
He added that the Secretary-General “urges all concerned to exercise maximum restraint and to refrain from actions that will escalate tensions further.”
According to news reports, on Friday Iran seized the British- flagged Stena Impero oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz with 23 crew members aboard.
