3. SOUNDBITE (English) Nickolay Mladenov, Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, United Nations:
“As new dangerous flashpoints emerge in the region, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict also remains one of the drivers of extremism and instability. The occupation continues, and no progress has been made in realizing a negotiated two-state solution. It is a multi-generational tragedy for the peoples of this land.”

5. SOUNDBITE (English) Nickolay Mladenov, Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, United Nations:
“It is not possible to genuinely and sustainably improve the socio-economic situation in Gaza without significantly easing restrictions on the movement and access of goods and people, with the goal of ultimately lifting them in line with Security Council resolution 1860 and returning Gaza and the West Bank under a single, legitimate Palestinian national authority. In this regard, I once again call on all Palestinian factions to engage with Egypt on reconciliation efforts.”
6. Wide shot, Security Council
7. SOUNDBITE (English) Riyad Mansour, Permanent Observer of Palestine to the United Nations:
“Without accountability, the deplorable situation we have faced will surely only worsen, paving the way for more suffering and insecurity for all, with innocent civilians, among them children and women, bearing the heaviest and most heartbreaking weight of the international community’s negligence.”
8. Wide shot, Security Council
9. SOUNDBITE (English) Danny Danon, Permanent Representative of Israel to the United Nations:
“For years now, Erdogan has been destabilizing the region through violence and supporting terrorist organizations. Erdogan is dragging Turkey down a dangerous neo-Ottoman imperialism path. He threatens journalists, persecutes religious minorities, and promotes anti-Semitism. It was not enough for Erdogan to persecute the Kurdish citizens of his own country, He now sends his troops to massacre Kurdish people in Syrian as well.”

11. SOUNDBITE (English) Danny Danon, Permanent Representative of Israel to the United Nations:
“These terrorist organizations do not all share the same ideology, and they differ in their perverted interpretation of religious texts. But they all share one main goal, to rid the region of nation-states and inaugurate a single religious leadership for the world. These organizations undermine the sovereignty of states, they disregard the rights of citizens, and they cause instability. They don’t believe in women’s rights, in rights for the LGBT community, in freedom of religion.”

13. SOUNDBITE (English) Feridun Hadi Sinirlioğlu, Permanent Representative of Turkey to the United Nations:
“Today, once again, we have listened to our daily dosage of lies. When these lies come from the representative of a government of terror, they are just waste of time. And no, those who want to advance their political careers over the dead bodies of children cannot lecture us about international law and human rights.”

UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Nickolay Mladenov told the Security Council that the occupation continues, and no progress has been made in realizing a negotiated two-state solution describing the situation as a “multi-generational tragedy for the peoples of this land.”
Addressing the Security Council via teleconference, Mladenov said, “As new dangerous flashpoints emerge in the region, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict also remains one of the drivers of extremism and instability.” He added that the past month has witnessed the continuing deterioration of the situation on the ground. With no prospect of final status negotiations on the horizon, he said, facts on the ground continue to deteriorate, pushing us ever further from a viable two-State solution.
Mladenov warned that violence continues to be a major part of the day-to-day reality of the conflict. However, he added, in recent weeks we have seen a welcome reduction of violence in Gaza and the launching of rockets and the agreements for calm brokered by the UN and Egypt continue to hold. Despite the overall improvement, he said, three Palestinians were killed by the Israeli Defence Forces, and over 500 injured during protests at the Gaza perimeter fence.
The Special Coordinator told the Security Council that we can no longer continue to address Gaza’s critical needs on a month-to-month basis, while failing to confront the broader political reality including the stiffening closures, violence and lack of unity.

In this regard, I once again call on all Palestinian factions to engage with Egypt on reconciliation efforts.”
Similarly, Mladenov said, we also can no longer disregard the cracks emerging in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem. Settlement construction and expansion continues, the Palestinian Authority financial crisis is not fully resolved, and the economy continues to stagnate.
Palestinian ambassador Riyad Mansour said international consensus on the Question of Palestine is firm and attempts to alter or negate it have failed. He said in the absence of serious action to give tangible meaning to this consensus, the alternative is rapidly unfolding before our eyes and it is one of an apartheid State in control of the lives of millions who are being oppressively, violently and unjustly deprived of their fundamental rights.
Mansour called on the Security Council and all countries to mobilise the political will for a just and sustainable peace. He said failure to change course would have far-reaching repercussions, unravelling decades of efforts and resources invested for the shared goals of peace, stability and human dignity.
Israeli ambassador Danny Danon said Turkish President Erdogan’s invasion of northern Syrian caused instability in the region and strengthened ISIL. He added that the Turkish President turned his country into a regional hub for terrorism adding that it was a disgrace to the Security Council’s mandate to continue focusing on Israel instead of the atrocities preformed by Erdogan.
SOUNDBITE (English) Danny Danon, Permanent Representative of Israel to the United Nations:

He threatens journalists, persecutes religious minorities, and promotes anti-Semitism. It was not enough for Erdogan to persecute the Kurdish citizens of his own country, he now sends his troops to massacre Kurdish people in Syrian as well.”
Danon warned against what he called the ethnic cleansing of the Kurdish people.
The Israeli ambassador said Iran has formed militias and, along with its nuclear ambitions, represents the biggest threat to peace. He said Iran was using proxies in Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Yemen, Gaza, the Sinai Peninsula, Libya, and other locations to further its dangerous plan.
Danon said if the Security Council wishes to serve its mandate, it must adapt itself to a world with non-state actors. He said the Council must first recognize these entities as terrorist organizations, prevent their funding, encourage countries in which they exist to take action against them, and if all else fails, take military action against them.
Turkish ambassador Feridun Hadi Sinirlioğlu said the periodic meeting on the question of Palestine should be changed to reflect the reality of the situation on the ground. He said in every meeting, the international community listens to stories on how the Government of Israel violates the basic rights of Palestinians on daily basis, the number of children killed by the extremists running the government of Israel, and the number of Palestinians who cannot receive medical treatment or who cannot go to school just because Israeli government is hijacked by a terrorist state of mind.
Sinirlioğlu added, “Today, once again, we have listened to our daily dosage of lies. When these lies come from the representative of a government of terror, they are just waste of time. And no, those who want to advance their political careers over the dead bodies of children cannot lecture us about international law and human rights.”
