“We remain guided by relevant Security Council resolutions. We remain committed to supporting the Palestinians and Israelis to achieve lasting and durable peace based on those resolutions. The Secretary-General regularly reports, periodically reports, on Resolution 2334. That also remains our guiding light. And the Resolution states that Israeli settlement activities are a flagrant violation under international law, a major obstacle to the achievement of the two-state solution and a just and lasting comprehensive peace. And that remains the Secretary-General’s position.”

A UN spokesperson said the Organization’s position on Israeli settlements remains unchanged following an announcement by the United States that it would no longer consider the settlements in breach of international law.
Responding to questions from reporters in New York today (19 Nov), UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said the UN remains guided by relevant Security Council resolutions and “committed to supporting the Palestinians and Israelis to achieve lasting and durable peace based on those resolutions.”
He noted that the Secretary-General periodically reports on Resolution 2334 which also remains the UN’s “guiding light,” adding that the Resolution states that “Israeli settlement activities are a flagrant violation under international law, a major obstacle to the achievement of the two-state solution and a just and lasting comprehensive peace. And that remains the Secretary-General’s position.”
