A permanent public exhibition, “Technology Museum: Delivering the Message of Peace” focused on unveiling the past, present, and future of technological progression at the United Nations, opened today (28 Jan) at the Public Lobby in the General Assembly Building.
From simultaneous interpretation systems and live broadcasting to cloud-based documentation, the information and communication technology (ICT) field has expanded for decades, enabling a more effective and nimbler UN. The exhibition celebrates the history of ICT transformation and innovation over the past 70 years, which fundamentally changed the way the UN conducts documented agreements, peacekeeping operations and provides humanitarian aid.
Eight multimedia screens introduce visitors to the milestones the UN achieved in the ICT field of each decade. Visitors can learn about the evolution of UN technology presented by historical photos and motion picture clips. Touch screens and interactive kiosks were set up for visitors browsing relevant documents and information.
In another section, a selection of historical artifacts, such as cameras, microphones and translation equipment collected from UNHQ and overseas offices demonstrate various communication technologies the Organization embraced during different periods.
