The UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Martin Griffiths, on Friday (10 Apr) shared the UN’s revised proposals for agreements with the Government of Yemen and Ansar Allah, a UN spokesperson told reporters today (13 Apr).

Deputy Spokesperson for the Secretary-General, Farhan Haq, said the proposals are for agreements “on nation-wide ceasefire, on key economic and humanitarian measures, and the urgent resumption of the political process.

Haq said Griffiths had “urged the parties to accept these proposed agreements without delay and begin working together through a formal political process to comprehensively end the war.”

The international community, he said, “stands ready to provide support and assurances to the process.”

Haq said Griffiths had also stressed “that the announcement of the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in Yemen makes it even more imperative to stop the fighting immediately.

Also on Friday, the Security Council endorsed the Secretary-General’s call of 25 March for those fighting in Yemen to immediately cease hostilities, focus on reaching a negotiated political settlement, and to do everything possible to counter an outbreak of COVID-19.
