22-year-old Ivorian artist Gebret O’Plérou designed the 2020 World Refugee Day emoji, representing two hands linked together in the shape of a heart.
O’Plérou said he wanted to create an emoji that shows diversity and solidarity.

The emoji comes with the #WorldRefugeeDay hashtag in several languages.

The young designer made world headlines when he created an award-winning app with 365 emojis inspired by African culture that change the way people see the continent, one for each day of the year.
Now, he’s created one for refugees.
