Having obtained the required majority and the largest number of votes of the members of the General Assembly, Bolivia, China, Côte d’Ivoire, Cuba, France, Gabon, Malawi, Mexico, Nepal, Pakistan, the Russian Federation, Senegal, Ukraine, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and Uzbekistan on Tuesday (13 Oct) have been elected members of the Human Rights Council for a three-year term of office beginning on 1 January 2021.

The fifteen vacant seats were distributed among the regional groups as follows: four seats for the African States; four seats for the Asia-Pacific States; two seats for the Eastern European States; three seats for the Latin American and Caribbean States; and two seats for the Western European and other States.

The new members will serve for a period of three years and are not be eligible for immediate re-election after two consecutive terms.
