A video mapping show paying tribute to food heroes and celebrating the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)’s 75th anniversary kicked off at the Colosseum and the UN agency’s headquarters’ building in Rome, Italy today (16 Oct).
The FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu was joined by Italian government ministers and the Mayor of Rome, Virginia Raggi to inaugurate the show at both locations.
The show, which celebrates food heroes and promotes the transformation of food systems, was also screened in dramatic fashion on the façade of FAO headquarters in Viale Aventino, where it will continue to be screened until Sunday October 18.
FAO marks this year’s World Food Day on October 16 as the world continues to fight the COVID-19 pandemic which has exposed the fragility of our food systems, and threatens to push millions more into hunger.
FAO celebrates World Food Day 2020 with the theme “Grow, nourish, sustain. Together. Our actions are our future”. The World Food Day provides an opportunity to thank Food Heroes – farmers and workers throughout the food supply chain - who, no matter the circumstances, continue to provide food to their communities and beyond.
