“We fled from Hodeida because of the war. We came here to Aden. Had it been up to me, I would have stayed home. But the war escalated. There was fighting right behind my room, everything was shaking. And I was pregnant with this boy. Because of stress, I was so tense. I would have bleedings. So my husband said, 'let’s leave.'”

“These days, we eat breakfast. If we have breakfast, we don’t have lunch, but we have dinner. If there is no money, we bear the hunger till the next day. For example, on a day when we don’t have breakfast nor lunch, my husband goes out, poor man, looking for something to eat. That’s it. My children say 'mummy, we’re hungry.'”

“Complications can be pneumonia or severe diarrhoea that may lead to shock. There are cases suffering from malaria or urinary tract infections. Children may suffer from severe complications or complete loss of appetite so that they have to come to this department for treatment.”

The United Nations together with the governments of Sweden and Switzerland will convene a virtual pledging conference for Yemen, which remains the world's largest humanitarian crisis.
The event, which is set to take place on 1 March in Geneva, is designed to raise awareness about the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation in Yemen and encourage donors to pledge generously to support humanitarian operations.
The situation in Yemen remains the world’s largest humanitarian crisis amid ongoing conflict, the COVID-19 pandemic and a severe economic crisis.
More than 20 million people need humanitarian assistance across the country, including more than 16 million who will go hungry this year. This year, relief agencies will require almost $4 billion to assist 19 million people in need.
