The United Nations has been following “with growing concern continuing reports of tension on Armenian-Azerbaijan border including the latest incident reported today,” the UN spokesperson Farhan Haq said on Wednesday (28 Jul).
“While the UN is not in a position to verify such reports, we urge both sides to exercise restraint, refrain from any action that can escalate tension and address related concerns through dialogue,” said Haq at a press briefing in New York.
According to media reports, three Armenian soldiers were killed in a cross-border exchange of gunfire with Azerbaijani soldiers and both sides reportedly later accepted a Russian ceasefire proposal.
