“We’re here in Warsaw, the capital city of Poland. We're here in front of the cash enrolment center that UNHCR is setting up to support vulnerable Ukrainian refugee families with financial assistance. Additionally, we try to identify the most vulnerable profiles most vulnerable families to ensure they have access to services, protection services, and counseling. We are partnering with different actors on the ground and specifically with the local authorities in Warsaw, the authorities of the districts, and more generally with the central authorities and the government of Poland that has shown tremendous support to refugees coming from Ukraine.”

Within three weeks, arrivals to Poland of refugees from Ukraine crossed the two-million mark. The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) is working with partners to provide them with financial assistance.
UNHCR has been working with national authorities, local administrations, municipalities, and civil society on refugee and asylum issues and acknowledged the enormous support of the Polish authorities and civil society.
On 21 March, together with partners and in close cooperation with the authorities, UNHCR launched the multi-purpose cash assistance programme in Warsaw. It will be rolled out in different cities across Poland to help refugees from Ukraine meet their basic needs until they receive support from the state.
Christine Goyer, UNHCR Country Representative, said that the UN Refugee Agency is setting up a cash enrolment center to support vulnerable Ukrainian refugee families with financial assistance.
She also said that they are trying to identify the most vulnerable profiles to ensure they have access to protection services and counseling.
She added, “We are partnering with different actors on the ground and specifically with the local authorities in Warsaw, the authorities of the districts, and more generally with the central authorities and the government of Poland that has shown tremendous support to refugees coming from Ukraine.”
More than 10 million people had been forced to flee their homes because of the war in Ukraine. Many are displaced inside the country, and more than 3 million are refugees abroad.
