3. SOUNDBITE (English) Federico Villegas, President, Human Rights Council:
“This year, of course, was the busiest one for the Human Rights Council, which had to deal with three major shaping events. The impact of climate change, the pandemic – that is not over – and the escalation of conflicts with global consequences. Human rights have been greatly impacted by these three shaping events, but at the same time the Council has continuously addressed these issues in order to overcome them and prevent greater impact.”

5. SOUNDBITE (English) Federico Villegas, President, Human Rights Council:
“It is obvious that there is a need in the Iranian society for expressing their ways and their opinion of looking at some things in a different way. And the Council is to help any country, any society, to improve their human rights. So what I expect is that we can realize and the Iranian authorities realize that the mechanisms of the Council are there to assist member states to address their human rights challenges.”
