Young South Sudanese students came together Wednesday (29 Mar) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Juba for a special debate on peace and nation building.
South Sudan is at a critical moment in its history, with a 24-month renewal of its transitional period and the clock ticking down for the country’s first-ever elections.
The discussion was organized by the UNMISS Peace Fellows, a joint initiative with South Sudan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation which harnesses the power of young Peace Ambassadors from across all 10 states to galvanize civic engagement in the peace process and garner support for implementing all provisions of the Revitalized Peace Agreement.

The aim of the debate is to engage and educate young people on leaving the scars of past civil wars behind and learning to peacefully coexist.

“It is really very good that we engage the youth and the schools in debates like this, because it will teach them in many ways, it will teach them to protect this nation from war. It will teach them how they can coexist with their neighbours, with their friends and with everybody.”
The hope is that with spirited discussions such as these, children who are the future of South Sudan, will become beacons of hope and peaceful coexistence.
