“I am in consultation with our Iranian counterpart, both in Iran and here with delegation. I think we have to do much more. This is the spirit in which we agreed last March, and many areas still need to be clarified. So we need to continue our work. The inventory of enriched uranium is growing at a very fast pace, and the activities are also growing. So the presence of the IAEA should be commensurate with that it is only logical that it is so.”

“The temporary exemption of nuclear material for this purpose is part of the existing legal framework. And that is a fact. Of course, we at the IAEA, we take this highly complex technical matters with utmost seriousness. And we have engaged in consultations with all sides involved in these projects, because we need to provide technically credible answers to this situation.”

The Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, told the agency’s Board of Governors that the international community “took a step in the right direction” to prevent a nuclear accident at the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine.
Briefing Board members on Monday (5 June) in Vienna, Grossi informed that last week, during a meeting of the Security Council, he had introduced five principles to help prevent a nuclear accident.
He added, “I think we got very good support on that. Items. ISAMS is already monitoring this. And we hope to continue our work towards the full stabilization there. This is not the end station of anything. My diplomatic and technical engagement will continue with all sides. And we hope to count on your full support in doing that.”
Grossi also briefed on the situation in Iran, noting that the agency is in consultations with its Iranian counterparts, both in Iran and with the delegation in Vienna.
“I think we have to do much more. This is the spirit in which we agreed last March, and many areas still need to be clarified. So we need to continue our work. Grossi also addressed the issue of naval nuclear propulsion, and the reports made by Australia and Brazil, noting that “the temporary exemption of nuclear material for this purpose is part of the existing legal framework.”
He added, “Of course, we at the IAEA, we take this highly complex technical matters with utmost seriousness. And we have engaged in consultations with all sides involved in these projects. Because we need to provide technically credible answers to this situation.”
