“I believe that the steps forward registered in the Secretary-General’s latest report are an indication that implementation is gaining traction across several sections of the Agreement, including those that had been lagging behind despite having the greatest potential to address the root causes of the conflict.”

“Colombia must continue to encourage and allow all actors in the conflict to be accountable in the name of truth, justice as a society and the victims. All of that must go hand in hand with effective and sustainable reintegration processes which allow dignity. We want to achieve peace and win that fight.”

Presenting the Secretary-General’s latest report to the Security Council, the Head of the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia (UNVMC), Carlos Ruiz Massieu, today (12 Jul) said “implementation is gaining traction across several sections of the Agreement, including those that had been lagging behind despite having the greatest potential to address the root causes of the conflict.”
Ruiz Massieu, who is also the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Colombia, said Congress “has a key role to play in implementing the Agreement” and welcomed the approval of legislation on rural reform.
He said, “I trust that all political actors will continue to find ways to build consensus to consolidate peace.”

The Secretary-General’s latest 90-day report on the Mission covers the period from 27 March to 26 June.
