“As we speak, the number of displaced people is around at least 340,000 people, up to 65 percent of them are being now hosted at UNRWA schools or UNRWA shelters, either designated emergency shelters or normal schools. So, the situation is really tough and being also complicated by the cut of the supply chains that is basically, as a result of the closure of the of the commercial crossings between Gaza and Israel, and also with Egypt.”

“So, the response is extremely challenging. You know, there is an extreme lack of the basics. You know, prior to the start of this past conflict, up to 62 percent of the Gaza Population were having serious issues securing their basic foods. You know, and unemployment rate was around 47percent. Poverty was sitting around 60 percent. So, all this is statistics are all to show that the situation was already so tough prior to the start of this crisis.”

We are trying to find the solutions actually for addressing the most priority needs of the population despite all these challenges. But again, the challenges are really, really hard.”

You know, Gaza is all exposed and Gaza- as I said earlier - has been lacking the infrastructure, you know, for the basic provision. You know, I think, if the situation continues to evolve and continues for a long period, I think we will be getting into a more disastrous situation.”

Reporting from Gaza, Hamada El Bayeri, from the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), on Wednesday (11 Oct) said, “there is not one immune centimeter in Gaza where people can feel as secure.”

El Bayeri said, “what we are witnessing is really beyond imagination” and added that “the amount of pressure that has is being brought on the civilian population is really intense.”

Reportedly over 1,100 Palestinians have been killed and around 5,340 being have injured since the start of the current escalation.

The OCHA official said, “so far we received reports suggesting that up to 25,000 housing units have been damaged, including up to 10 percent of them being destroyed or rendered unusable.”

At least 340,000 people have been displaced. Up to 65 percent of them are being hosted at UNRWA schools or UNRWA shelters.

El Bayeri said, “the situation is really tough and being also complicated by the cut of the supply chains that is basically, as a result of the closure of the of the commercial crossings between Gaza and Israel, and also with Egypt.”

He said the response was “extremely challenging” as “there is an extreme lack of the basics.”

Prior to the start of the current escalation, up to 62 percent of the Gaza Population were having serious issues securing basic foods and the unemployment rate was around 47 percent, while poverty was around 60 percent.

So far, the humanitarian official said, “there is no safe passages or corridors for the civilian population to use or for the humanitarian community also to use” and stressed that “there is no safe place Gaza.”

“If the situation continues to evolve and continues for a long period,” he concluded, “we will be getting into a more disastrous situation.”

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has launched an emergency operation to provide critical food assistance to over 800,000 people in Gaza and the West Bank who are facing dire circumstances, lacking access to food, water, and essential supplies.
