11. SOUNDBITE (English) Ayman Safadi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Jordan:
“We should be outraged at failing the Palestinian people. We should be outraged at failing the Israeli people by not giving them the peace that they deserve. What we want is peace, peace that will fulfil the rights of the Palestinians to statehood, freedom, will ensure the security of Israel, and that's a position that we took in 2002, the Arab Peace Initiative. We said that, we said, all of us are willing to have normal relations with Israel in return for one thing: end the illegal occupation of the Palestinian land; end the suppression of the Palestinian people; withdraw from Arab lands occupied and let's have peace.”

11. SOUNDBITE (English) Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Saudi Arabia:
“A ceasefire is a humanitarian imperative. We are facing a desperate situation in Gaza right now. We are facing an impending humanitarian catastrophe. Every hour we speak, more civilians in Gaza are dying. More people are getting injured. The situation is getting worse. A ceasefire is an absolute necessity immediately. That will allow us to address all of the other issues. We have called quite clearly for a release of hostages and that is absolutely necessary. But the protection of civilian life, the protection of infrastructure, especially hospitals and other infrastructure required for the survival of Gaza is also an imperative that must be met immediately.”

League of Arab States members today (24 Oct) called for an immediate ceasefire, an immediate lifting of the blockade on Gaza, and a return to a peace process.
Speaking to reporters outside the Security Council, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud, said, “we are all here together with a unified message, that more violence is not the answer, that all civilian life is deserving of protection. And that includes the lives of the Palestinian civilians in Gaza. “
The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Egypt, Sameh Shoukry, for his part called on the Security Council “to undertake its responsibility as defined in the Charter to work for the cessation of hostilities, an immediate and sustained ceasefire, and to provide the protection for all civilians.”
He said the League of Arab States condemns the targeting of all civilians, and “consider it imperative that the international community undertakes its responsibility to address the issues of gross violations of international humanitarian law.”
Shoukry said, “we can no longer only address the two-state solution and advocate as a matter of lip service that the international community and the Security Council do have the necessary resources and means to implement what has become recognized as the international community's consensus to the end of this conflict on the basis of a two-state solution. living side by side in peace and security.”
The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Jordan, Ayman Safadi, said, “before anybody else, we expressed outrage at the killing of civilians. We are outraged at what's happening now in Gaza - six-thousand people slaughtered, children, women, daughters, fathers, grandfathers, all suffering, all dying under the bombardment of Israel.”
Safadi said, “we should be outraged at failing the Palestinian people. Prince Faisal said, “a ceasefire is a humanitarian imperative. We are facing a desperate situation in Gaza right now. We are facing an impending humanitarian catastrophe. Every hour we speak, more civilians in Gaza are dying. More people are getting injured. The situation is getting worse.”
A ceasefire, he insisted, “is an absolute necessity immediately” that will allow the parties “to address all of the other issues.”
Prince Faisal concluded by saying, “we have called quite clearly for a release of hostages and that is absolutely necessary. But the protection of civilian life, the protection of infrastructure, especially hospitals and other infrastructure required for the survival of Gaza is also an imperative that must be met immediately.”
